Along with routinely using equipment to clear and build trails, Zach operates a machine with a special bucket attached for the purpose of smoothing out trails and aiding in hand finishing tasks. He also doubles as a mechanic who helps keep Dirt Artisan’s fleet of machines and tools running smoothly, thus putting his experience at a John Deere equipment dealer to good use. Since joining Dirt Artisans in 2018, Zach has especially enjoyed his work on the hiking trails in the Edge of Appalachia Nature Preserve in Adams County, Ohio.
Zach loves the outdoors; he enjoys hiking, backpacking, camping, paddling, fishing and harvesting. Some of his favorite outdoor areas include the Wayne National Forest in Ohio; the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee and North Carolina; the George Washington National Forest in Virginia; the Rocky Mountains in Colorado; and Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah. Zach has hiked several sections of The Appalachian Trail and hopes to someday complete the entire 2,192 miles through all 14 states. When not outside building or experiencing the trails, Zach keeps busy hobby farming with his wife; caring for goats, chickens, dogs and cats; and maintaining a homestead.
