Sara Gatewood

Administrative Officer

Covington, KY

With a decade of experience doing volunteer trail maintenance work including trimming back overgrowth, fixing drains and coordinating monthly volunteer trail work days at Devou Park in Covington, Kentucky, Sara puts her organizational and communications skills to use both on and off the trail for Dirt Artisans. On the trail, you can usually find her either hand finishing behind the machines using tools such as a rake, loppers, handsaw and blower or doing rock and bridge work to complete the trail. Occasionally, she will be on a machine to help build and shape the trail. Off the trail, she takes care of a range of essential business administration and human resources tasks, including making sure that Dirt Artisans remains compliant and up-to-date with local, state and federal regulations. She also manages out-of-town housing needs for the Dirt Artisans’ crew and oversees company communications.

As an 11-time marathon finisher in several states, Sara’s favorite place to train for her adventures is on trails and in the woods. In addition to trail running, she enjoys hiking, mountain biking, camping, traveling, exploring the outdoors and spending time with family and friends. She names trail systems like Devou Park and Big South Fork in Kentucky; Brown County in Indiana; Mount Airy in Ohio; Jakes Rocks in Pennsylvania; Sedona, the Grand Canyon and the Coronado National Forest in Arizona; and Crested Butte and Steamboat Springs in Colorado as some of her favorites.
